Daily Preparedness Tip: Don't Drink and Drive

It's kind of a no-brainer that people shouldn't drink and drive or drive under the influence of any other mind-altering substances, but judging by the several hundred DUI arrests in my city each month, the message hasn't reached everyone.  A DUI will run a person $10,000 to $15,000 and untold misery for years to come so if you do decide to drink during the holidays--or any other time--leave your car at home and take an Uber or Lyft to your destination and back.  Take a taxi, a Tipsy Tow, the city bus (many of which may be free during the holidays), call a friend for a ride, stay at a local hotel if you've had too much to drink, etc.  Note that pre-planning your evening is the way to prevent drinking and driving since once a person starts drinking, their judgement as to whether they are sober enough to drive goes out the window.
